The word “kiosk” comes from the Persian word “kūshk”, which means “palace”. Back in the day, these weren’t the mini-markets we know now, but ornate stands that popped up in the Ottoman Empire. As time went on, these structures got smaller, and spread all over the world. They became more functional and less of a fancy hangout spot—like the cute, lively stands you see today in European streets or at your favorite music festivals!
